Several months were necessary to design and fabricate the
strongest and most modern mobile Forging Manipulator of the world. Some
weeks ago the machine was completed in the assembly shop of DANGO &
DIENENTHAL in Siegen.
With a carrying capacity of 85 tons this giant will be mainly used for the production of rings at a 6,000-ton open die forging press and a ring rolling mill. Moreover, shafts and other large items will be produced. In spite of the enormous size the machine has all characteristics of most modern manipulators, like high speed, high acceleration, flexibility in operation, and a compact design. Only one operator sits on the machine and handles or manipulates the red-hot metal ingots under the forging press to enable forming in accordance with the production requirements. The machine with really gigantic dimensions will work in a forging shop in Southern Europe.
On the 27th of February 2002 the forging
manipulator was presented to the interested public. More than 300 visitors,
mainly forging specialists, could see the manipulator in operation in the
assembly shop of DANGO & DIENENTHAL. The most important technical data of the machine are: load capacity 850 kN (85 metric tons)
load moment
1,700 kNm
machine weight
240 tons
length 11,250 mm
width 6,220 mm
height
6,585 mm gripping range 2,000 mm Electric motors drive the hydraulic pumps. These pumps actuate all machine motions such as travelling and lateral shifting, lifting, lowering, opening and closing of the tongs. An extra sensitive control allows very short rotate and travel steps with highest precision. Following completion of the trial run the machine was dismantled into three main components to allow road transportation to the plant of the client. On arrival at final destination experts from DANGO & DIENENTHAL are going to supervise reassembly and commissioning as well as training of the operators.
